Introduction to Sudoku & Classic Sudoku

  • Sudoku is a logic puzzle consisting of a partially completed grid of squares. The idea of the puzzles is to fill in the blank squares following the simple rules of Sudoku
  • Classic Sudoku, sometimes called Standard Sudoku, is the most popular version of Sudoku and has grid size of 9 rows x 9 columns resulting in 81 cells.
  • The grid is usually square and the grid size varies from 4 rows x 4 columns to 25 rows x 25 columns . See the properties of the different popular Grid Sizes.

What is Sudoku

  • Classic Sudoku is the most popular.
    • The Grid is sub divided into 9, 3 rows x 3 columns Blocks of 9 cells marked by Bolder Lines.
  • into which you enter the numbers 1 to 9, ensuring you follow the Sudoku Rules (See Below).
  • Some numbers are already entered into the grid by the author or computer program. The quantity of numbers entered is one of the factors that determines the difficulty of solving the puzzle
    • Blocks may be named regions, or boxes

The Sudoku Grid Parts

Sudoko Grids consist or Rows, Columns & Blocks. All these sections form part of the Rules of Sudoku

Rows

  • The number of Rows depends on the size of the Grid
  • A Classic Suduko Grid has 9 rows

Columns

  • The number of Columns depends on the size of the Grid
  • A Classic Suduko Grid has 9 rows

Blocks

  • Blocks can also be called or boxes
  • All Grid are Subdivided into Blocks which are marked with bolder lines
  • Grids of larger than 6 rows x 6 columns or larger are sub divided into 9 equal sized blocks
  • Each Block of a 9 x 9 Classic Grid must containal all the numbers 1 to 9, without repeats
